A Dozen Paces can only be described as “Chicagoland Rock and Roll with a punk rock heart, a bit of twang and a whole lot of soul.”
Started in 2011 by cousins David Manchen and Gerarad Rapp, after the dissolve of their first band they set out to create music that more closely mirrored their own root, rock and roll influences. With Manchen singing and songwriting and Rapp playing his distinct style of electric guitar they began putting songs together, finally bringing in David McCann and later Kyle Gallagher in on drums and, over time, bringing in other great members of the local music community to create their own unique brand of rock and roll. In 2016 they recorded their first EP “Burn The Ships” at PM Studios (produced by Nick Wagner). Although their music and performances were well received – playing well-attended, high energy shows throughout Chicagoland at venues such as The Abbey Pub, Silvies and Phyllis’ Musical Inn – the band was plagued by frequent lineup changes, disagreements around musical direction and just generally too much life getting in the way.
In late 2016 the band finally went on a formal hiatus, during which David sought out new opportunities writing and performing solo acoustic shows around Illinois while Gerard formed the band Dead Harvest where he found the opportunity to showcase his distinct guitar playing style to new audiences.
After time spent fighting his own battles with drug and alcohol addiction and recovering from a bad breakup in 2017 Manchen found himself with a new perspective and a new lease on songwriting and began piecing together what would once again become A Dozen Paces (2.0). In August of 2018 he began collaborating with Chamberlain Foreman and with the addition of drummer Kyle Richards and Gerard Rapp – who, as luck would have it, had found himself looking for a new project as well – they began practicing and performing once again as A Dozen Paces.
Since their reincarnation the band has been working tirelessly, playing shows in the Chicagoland area and working on new material, their EP “Skin and Bones” is set to be released in early 2019.
